Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Moat iOS app. It is separate from, and additional to, the general site privacy policy at thesolanalabs.com/privacy-policy/.
Moat puts your screenshots on a nice background so they look good when you share them. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app touches, what stays on your iPhone, and what leaves it.
The short version: Moat has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We run no server. Your screenshots and the images you make are never uploaded anywhere — they stay on your device.
1. Who we are
Moat is published by THE SOLANA LABS (PRIVATE) LIMITED (CUIN 0347376), a company incorporated in Pakistan.
- Registered office: Minhaj Chowk, Saghar, Talagang 48150, Pakistan
- Office: Street No 7, Shah Khalid Colony, Rawalpindi 46200, Pakistan
Email: [email protected]
For the purposes of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, that entity is the data controller for the limited processing described in section 5.
2. What we do not do
We would rather be specific than reassuring. Moat contains:
- No user accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no password.
- No servers of ours. There is no Moat backend for your images to be sent to, because we did not build one.
- No analytics SDK. We do not measure your usage, sessions, screens or taps.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, no IDFA. The app never asks for App Tracking Transparency permission, because it has nothing to track you with.
- No crash-reporting or attribution SDK.
- No selling or sharing of personal information, ever — including as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- No profiling and no automated decision-making.
3. Your screenshots
Your images never leave your iPhone. Everything Moat does — compositing, device frames, blurring, cropping, rendering the final export — happens entirely on your device using Apple's own frameworks. Nothing is uploaded, and we never see a single one of your screenshots.
Images you bring in are held only in the app's own private storage while you are working, and go away when you remove them or delete the app.
How Moat gets to your photos
| What | How it works |
|---|---|
| Choosing a screenshot | Moat uses Apple's system photo picker. It grants no library access at all — iOS hands the app only the specific images you tap. Moat cannot see, browse or search the rest of your photo library, and never asks to. |
| Saving your export | Moat requests add-only permission, used solely to write the image or clip you just exported into your library. It cannot read anything back. |
You can change or withdraw photo access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Moat. Saving to Photos is only one of the ways to export — the share sheet and the clipboard need no permission at all.
4. What else is stored on your device
- Your presets — the saved look: background, spacing, shadow, frame and output ratio. Presets deliberately never include your screenshots, so one preset works on any image.
- Your settings and recent choices — the background, device and layout you last used, so the app opens where you left off.
- Your export count — a simple weekly tally used to apply the free allowance, and a flag recording whether you have bought the paid unlock.
All of this lives in the app's private container. It is included in your iPhone backups if you have them switched on — those backups belong to you and Apple, not to us. Deleting Moat removes all of it.
The bundled background library ships inside the app itself. Browsing it downloads nothing and makes no network request.
5. Purchases
Moat is free to use with a weekly export allowance. A single one-off purchase removes that limit. There is no subscription.
All payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your card details, billing address or Apple Account credentials. Apple tells the app only whether a valid purchase exists; your unlocked status is then kept as a simple flag on your own device.
Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. If we later add a purchase-management provider to restore purchases across your devices, this policy will be updated before that ships.
6. When you contact us
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write — often including a screenshot you send us to explain a problem. We use it only to answer you, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we keep it only as long as it takes to resolve your question.
7. Legal bases for processing (UK/EU GDPR)
Almost everything Moat does involves no processing by us at all, because the data never reaches us. Where it does:
- Support email — processed on the basis of your consent, given by choosing to write to us, together with our legitimate interest in supporting the app.
- Purchases — handled by Apple for the performance of a contract. We are not the payment processor and receive no payment data.
- Photos access — granted by you to the app on your own device through iOS. We never receive that data, so we do not process it.
8. Retention
- On-device data is kept until you delete it in the app, or delete the app. We cannot delete it for you, because we cannot reach it.
- Purchase records are retained by Apple under their own policies, for billing and tax purposes.
- Support email is kept only as long as needed to resolve your question.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Residents of California have rights of access, deletion, correction and portability, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
In practice, for Moat: access and deletion are entirely in your hands — all app data sits on your device and is removed completely when you delete the app. For anything else, write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days, free of charge.
10. Children
Moat is a general-purpose design tool and is not directed at children under 13. It has no account system, no social features, no chat and no user-to-user content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included, because we do not collect it at all.
11. International transfers
The publisher is established in Pakistan, which is not covered by a UK or EU adequacy decision. In practice the only personal data that ever reaches us is the content of an email you choose to send (section 6). Your screenshots, presets and settings are never transferred anywhere, because they never leave your device. Purchase data is held by Apple, not by us.
12. Security
Your data stays inside the app's sandboxed container, protected by iOS file protection and your device passcode. Because Moat has no server and no account, there is no database of ours that can be breached and no credentials of yours that can be stolen from us.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Moat after a change means you accept the updated policy.
